History was made in Washington D.C. on the morning of Thursday, May 18, 2012. On this day, an estimated 15,000 Realtors® made their way to the National mall to participate in the first ever “Rally to protect the American Dream.” The purpose of the event was to let the lawmakers in Washington D.C. know that we the Realtors® are the voice of homeowners, real estate investors, and those that hope to be homeowners. Our message was clear, “Homeownership Matters!”
The magnitude of this event became most evident when the crowd began saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the US Flag under the shadow of the Washington Monument. Realtors® from every state in the union were represented and Texas made a HUGE showing. Many of us in the crowd representing Texas were not only TAR members, but also active, dedicated WCR members that had traveled a day early to take part in this historic event. This was a fabulous event and I urge each and every one of you to participate in events such as this.
The events of this day renewed me. There is no greater sense of professional satisfaction than representing people in a transaction to achieve their dream of owning a home. There are many things in my life that I am proud of, May 18, 2012 took me back to the reason I chose this profession of Realtor®, I love to help people, I am proud to be an American, a Realtor®, and a member of WCR!
