Gratitude, Energy and a Need to Succeed!

What did I see while acting as Texas District Vice President for Area C-District 6?  Traveling the state, I saw gratitude, energy and a need to succeed! If I am to impress upon our readers the feelings evoked through my time acting as a DVP, it is those three!

When I was in Fort Bend County, the level of gratitude was inherent in so many faces. Angela Johnson, Vice-President of Membership, served her chapter with such a giving, bright attitude.  Christina Daw, President-Elect, is always smiling and has a strong desire to continue the success of this Chapter.  Local President Theresa Fehr led her Business Resource Meetings with informative poise interjected with witty comments to balance the seriousness of the content. The new members grinned with sheer excitement and a desire to learn more.  I don’t think you can have a better meeting than that.

As I approached the River Plantation to attend the Montgomery County Chapter Business Meeting and luncheon, I was pleased to see such a beautiful backdrop for the meeting. I wasn’t disappointed when I first joined the governing board for a meeting and witnessed how devoted the group was to addressing the monthly business and challenges with sincerity, thoughtfulness and resolve. I was honored to have lunch with these members and listen to their guest speaker from HAR who gave us all great information on how our local associations work with us to thrive in our industry.

Sheryl Hunter, President of The Great Northwest Chapter, led her Chapter with enthusiasm, grace and charm!  This Chapter is truly a family dedicated to each of their members and appreciative of their Chapter history.  Their leadership team is energetic about Membership Mixers, Fundraisers and Education for their members.  This was especially observed during their “EPIC” Roaring Twenties Casino Night with over 200 in attendance!  Membership Marketing Chair, Cookie Long, led the Chapter to 2-awards during the State Summer Membership Contest and Christy Stratton, President-Elect, ensures that Education is relevant for their members and guests.

I am continuously amazed at the energy of Natalie Henshilwood, Membership Marketing Chair for the Greater West Houston Chapter., who always serves her Chapter with a smile and a continuous desire to help build their membership.  John Buchanan, Chapter President, is always full of ideas for new fundraisers and involving their membership.  Their newly appointed President-Elect, Shawn Jones, has been busy obtaining new Strategic Partners and is totally dedicated to growing the Chapter and offering more Value to its members.  I see great things in store for this Chapter in 2015!

Serving our beautiful State of Texas has truly been a pleasure. Traveling to see how each Chapter operates was insightful and a cherished relationship building experience for me. Thank you to our members and 2014 state line officers for this unique opportunity!

It has been my honor to serve,

Rebecca Lightfoot O’Shea
