3rd Quarter Newsletter
September 30, 2012

What an exciting time to be a member of the Texas Chapter! The future looks bright with our 2013 Leadership Team under the guidance of Sylvia Seabolt, our youngest president ever, with Sharon Morton, President-elect, Holly Kincaid, Secretary and Dawn Lavka, Treasurer.  Serving as Governors will be Ethel O’Dell, Area A; Robby Valadez, Area B and Marty Chrisman, Area C.  Texas District Vice Presidents are David Burton, Cindy Cox, Nikki Fulks, Thomas Gallagher, Nancy Garcia and Velma De Los Santos.

Our 2013 Leadership Team is committed to the implementation of the recently approved Texas State Chapter 2013-2015 Strategic Plan. Thank you to the members of the 2012 Strategic Planning Committee and to Jim DeLizia, our facilitator extraordinaire for an eye-opening, mind-expanding experience as the team identified key issues, established objectives and set priorities. The chapter is ready to move forward in a positive manner to maximize the benefits for our membership.

Hot, Hot, Hot… WCR is muy caliente!

Our Facebook page continues to be very active with various items:  monthly leaders for our Membership Contest, local chapter Entrepreneurs of the Year, new Faces of Texas every month in addition to the posts by the officers.  In July, our local chapter presidents posted and did an excellent job keeping us in touch with their chapters.

Chris Rodriguez, Chair and Chyrel Madden, Vice Chair of the Newsletter Committee continue to do an outstanding job bringing information from around the state, highlighting members and their achievements.

Our newest initiative is recognition of our members for not only their service to Women’s Council but to their work with TAR, NAR and local board associations.  It is through their efforts that our industry will benefit.  Thank you to Cindy Cox, Chair and Cristi McGowan, Vice Chair of our Marketing Committee for creating a TAR-WCR Connection flyer with testimonials from members across our state that was placed in the TAR packet at the Fall Conference.

Empowering our members through education was the theme woven through our Fall conference starting on Thursday with the PMN Class – “Effective Negotiating for Real Estate Professionals” instructed by our own Becky Hill, 2009 National President.  On Friday, we held our WCR University Training sessions with 2012 officers as well as Tami Bonnell, recently named CEO of EXIT Realty, our 2012 Platinum Level Annual Sponsor.  On Saturday we ended with a FREE 2 hour MCE class “Can You See Clearly Now’ with Kelea Piper of Champions School of Real Estate, our Gold Level Annual Partner.

Congratulations to the  “MUY CALIENTE “ winners of the Membership Contest announced on Thursday, September 6th  at the Winners Circle:

  • Small – McAllen
  • Large – Austin
  • Mega – San Antonio.

Champions School of Real Estate, our Texas State Gold Level Strategic Partner, gave a $50 Scholarship to the three Chapters.  Nine chapters met the goals set for the contest.  Congratulations to ALL for their efforts.  Great job done by the Membership Committee with Chair – Cathy Mitchell, Vice Chair – Rodney Rowan and their committee members.

The hot streak continued with the Fiesta Caliente Friday night, September 7th …a good time was had by all!  Thank you to Sally Singley as Chair, Kim Shaw as Vice Chair and their committee members for a very successful networking and fundraising event in a historic location.

The fourth quarter will find us at the 2013 Leadership Orientation in Horseshoe Bay, October 25-27 and then traveling to Orlando, Florida for the NAR/TAR Annual Conference, November 8-11.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the 2012 Texas State President.
