Area A Highlight on Abilene, TX Chapter

We are now in the last quarter of 2014. The second half of the year is almost complete and each chapter’s officers should be helping the newly elected officers understand their role in the upcoming year.  I want to encourage you to remember back to the first quarter and the overwhelmed feeling you experienced. Hopefully you had someone from the previous year to help you understand your role in the chapter. Now it is your turn to mentor the incoming officer.   This is one of the most important things you can do as you round the bend to the end of the year finish line. You have learned so much in your time of service to your WCR chapter and now it is time for your leadership skills to shine as you hand over your mantle of responsibilities. I know my Awesome Area A chapter officers certainly will! My chapters include Abilene, Cameron County, El Paso and McAllen.  If you missed any of my previous newsletter articles, I am highlighting something awesome that happened in one of my chapters and introducing you to them in a more “in depth” level.  For this quarter we will focus on the Women’s Council of REALTORS® Abilene Chapter.

Abilene has finished the year strong! Their last quarter included their annual October recipe exchange/potluck and a dirty Santa gift exchange. But, the event that stood out in people’s minds is definitely October’s Business Resource Meeting entitled “You have no idea!”  This meeting doubled as a membership event and focused on the history of WCR as an organization. Several members shared their WCR experience and their “big why”. The chapter’s own VP of Membership, Robbie Fenn, led the meeting and included details that you may not even be aware of.  For instance, did you know that as of 2014 WCR members accounted for 175 NAR board of directors, 304 NAR committee members and that 123 WCR members  have served as their State Association presidents? WCR leadership in action was definitely highlighted at  Abilene’s October meeting! This resulted in 5 new members and, I was informed, there may be 2 more coming! To top it off, the Abilene chapter had 96 in attendance at their December installation and Christmas auction event. This is definitely a Chapter on the rise and has a strong leadership team leading the way.  Way to go Abilene!
